Developing Data Sharing Solutions
The Labor Market Information (LMI) Institute, in collaboration with the Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness (CREC) and with support from the Pew Charitable Trusts, convened state and national experts last week to discuss sharing employment data.
The workshop, which included WDQC staff, supports research that the LMI Institute and CREC are conducting on behalf of the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation regarding state data confidentiality laws and regulations, as well as data sharing agreements.
State leaders noted successful strategies for enabling data sharing between agencies, including:
- Working with state legislators on amending laws to allow data sharing for performance management and other purposes
- Developing trust between officials in multiple agencies
- Getting buy-in from governors by showing how information obtained through data sharing supports key political priorities
