A bill to reauthorize federal grants that support state longitudinal data systems passed the House last week.

WDQC sent a letter of support for the proposed legislation in April.

The Strengthening Education through Research Act (H.R. 4366) reauthorizes the Education Sciences Reform Act, which in 2002 established the federal education research system. The legislation now goes to the Senate.

The bill would amend language that directs the U.S. Department of Education to award grants for state longitudinal data systems. New language would encourage alignment of data across early childhood, K-12, postsecondary and workforce programs. In addition, the bill emphasizes the use of data, not just data system creation.
