In a small Appalachian town that is home to more than 15 breweries, the use of labor market information coupled with regional workforce demands led to the creation of a two-year associate of applied science degree in brewing, distillation and fermentation. Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College in Asheville, N.C. recently created The Craft Beverage Institute of the Southeast to meet the needs of the fast-growing beverage industry in the region. Mary Alice McCarthy of New America Foundation, a WDQC partner, comments on the program.
